Price per Metre?

We often get phone calls simply asking...How much do you charge per metre?

This is not necessarily a straightforward question. Yes we have a base rate we work with, as does every company. However giving out our price per metre does not reflect what is involved in a quoted fence price.

There are many things to consider in a quote, not just the lentgh of the fence. We look at things like....Is there concrete next to the fence? Are there trees along the fence line? Are the original posts timber or colorbond or are they concrete? Is specialist equipment needed to complete the job? Do we need to remove a structure built onto the fence? Delivery of materials? Do you have an old fence that needs to be removed and taken away? All of these situations will involve a fee of some sort. Alot of companies don't add these to your quote, because they want their price to look the best on paper. However, they will almost always be an extra cost you will find out about mid job, especially Tree Roots. The exception to this is rocks, pipes etc. as these are unknowns until we dig your Fence Post holes.

The other thing that most people are not aware off, is that you are actually charged per Linear Metre. When a fencing company orders their materials they are charged per Linear Metre. Timber Fences 2.7mt Panels, Colorbond 2.365mt Panels.

If you want a new timber fence and the length of your fence is 25mtr, you will actually be charged for 27mt. A fencing company (or anyone for that matter) are charged at whole panels. If the same fence was in colorbond you would be charged for 26.01mt.

Its like buying carpet, which is sold by the linear metre.....you might only need 3mtr wide, and the carpet comes in either 2mtr widths or 4mtr, so naturally you have to buy the 4mtr to get what you need.

Delivery

This is another unavoidable cost, which has jumped considerably in the last few months with higher than average fuel cost.

We are sometimes asked........Why cant you pick up the materials and save us this cost?

While we do occasionally pick up our own materials for the smaller jobs we still have a cost involved to pick them up. Mostly our orders are delivered, and the reason why is simply...Weight!

A recent order for 34mt of colourbond and sleepers weighed over 680kg, and requires a crane truck to lift it off.

Wyndham Fencing

We believe in being upfront with costs and fees where ever possible. The quoted price covers everything we can see (Concrete cuts) or expect to find (Tree Roots etc) and while our quotes might not be the cheapest, they are honest.

Extra costs you may receive at end of job that we can't foresee are things like rocks in a hole or repair of stormwater pipe.

Rocks can add considerable time to a job, if we hit one in a post hole. We cant just move the post as it throws out the whole fence, so our contractor has to perservere to break up that rock and then remove it so he can get the hole to the correct depth for your post.

Stormwater pipes can also add time to a job. Whilst ever care is taken, we dont always know where these are, either the homeowner has no idea where they are located or neglected to tell us. Some fencers if they hit a stormwater will neglect to tell you and just fill the hole with concrete and you are none-the-wiser until you start having issues with backflow. We don't work like this. Our contractor will not only tell you he has hit a stormwater pipe, but he will also take the time to repair it. He will also take photos to show you, for your own piece of mind if you are not home at the time.

We have built our reputation on building Quality Fences to a very High Standard and we only ever use Concrete, We don't believe in taking shortcuts,...... Ever!
